Convolvulus is a chair that has been designed
to re propose the kind of magic that Art Nouveau and '60s design had,
with a contemporary statement. Its construction and manufacture has
been achieved through small production run industrial processes with
a vacuum formed plastic seat shell, cast aluminium components and
a simple tubular steel base.
Art Nouveau qualities in the design were achieved by basing the initial
drawings on Convolvulus blossoms, and the Arnio/Saarinen '60s touch
with the orange upholstered cushion was added. I decided that to complete
the presentation of the project as a contemporary/retro design, I
needed to photograph it in a suitable set, but with a model of a 'contemporary'
beauty.
